The iindigo Art team upped and left London over the summer of 2012 and took iindigo art to Ayia Napa, Cyprus. Ibiza, the more house based island, have a body art movement called zoo project where they paint party goers in animal prints. There appeared to be a gap in the market for body art in the more urban Ayia Napa so we decided to expand it and bring it there. Six girls, one apartment, sun, sea, clubs and body art equals a crazy few months!
We worked on Europe’s biggest beach party called ‘Summer love’ which was an amazing event. It was festival themed and held over 2000 people with an incredible line up that included artists such as Chase and Status, Wretch 32 and Miss Dynamite to name a few. We painted everything from your animal prints, lace and floral face designs to tribals sleeves, graffiti and full chest and back work.
We then did the weekly kandi beach parties which were also a huge Aiya Napa event. The line ups were always great and they were always a little more crazy as the ticket included an open bar! Party goers tend to get a little more imaginative and opt for the weird and wonderful in their body art when alcohol flows!
On a daily basis we slept in till late as nightlife doesn’t start till 1am in Cyprus, road around on our quad bikes, shopped and chilled at the beach or by a pool. At night when there wasn’t an event going on, we worked independently at Club Ice, one of Cyprus’s biggest clubs. Although we partied and worked equally as hard most of nights off were spent star watching on the beach or eating noodles and playing cards in our apartment.
Overall, it was a crazy and amazing couple of months. It properly put iindigo art on the map, brought us together as a group and allowed us to improve and grow creatively and as a team. We got various follow up bookingsand ended up also doing The Aiya Napa Reunion at the O2 centre in London.
